Hyatt Zilara (formerly the Royal Cancun)
Cancun, Mexico

In early 2014, the HYATT ZILARA took over the Royal Cancun.  Although I have not had the opportunity to visit this property since the minor updating and re-branding, I continue to send very happy clients to this resort.

The following review is based on my experience from my stay a few years ago at The Royal Cancun...

The ROYAL CANCUN...probably my favorite of all resorts we have visited in the Cancun/Riviera Maya area! The ONLY disappointment when we visited this fantastic resort 3 years ago was the beach, which had eroded from several hurricanes...I am HAPPY to report that the BEACH is BACK!

The great thing about the Royal Cancun is that ALL rooms are OCEAN VIEW! No need to upgrade to see the spectacular Caribbean Sea!

The large rooms are truly opulent, all with a jacuzzi for 2 which is located right in front of the huge floor to ceiling sliding glass door...a beautiful view! There is a spacious dressing/vanity area which leads to a private shower for two, equipped with 2 different shower sprays and a small window, which allows you to see into your room through the headboard of your bed!

There are two pool areas, one for activities, the other is the quiet area, all equipped with many cabanas which offer filter from the sun. Both pool areas also had huge hot tubs! There was even a bar inside one of the pools that had swings to sit on! Beach beds were also available near the pool, as well as scattered on the beach!

A Beach Butler would come around with his cart, and offer a cooling mist of water from his spray bottle. If you needed some sunscreen, he would even offer to apply it for you!

Probably our favorite time of day was lunchtime! Pelicanos is situated poolside and offers gourmet, open air dining! I looked forward to a feast of gigantic scallops and a glass of white wine everyday! After lunch, I would go into the lobby area, to the Royal Coffee House and get a chocolate croissant to bring back to our cabana for dessert! Yum!

After a long, hard day of sunning, drinking and eating, we stopped by the VIP Lounge, to pour ourselves a drink and grab a snack, to either bring back to our room or enjoy on the terrace overlooking the street and lagoon.

The Royal Cancun has several dining options, including 24 hour room service. One of our favorites was Asiana...the sushi was supreme! There is also an option to dine at Chef's Plate by reservation only, where you enjoy dining in a private room at a grand table, with a small select group. The chef cooks just for your group, right in the room while interacting with the guests! It was a really fun experience!

In the evening, there was always music entertainment in the huge bar/lobby area...lounging beds and chairs for two were available! You could also enjoy the music out on the patio just outside the bar area! Pool tables were also available in a separate game room. It is a relatively quiet evening life at the Royal Cancun, but after a full day, we were always ready to turn in early!

The Royal Cancun is like a dream come true...and now with the return of an enjoyable beach, I would go back in a heartbeat!
